The second annual Tropical Freeze Tournament took place at The Rink at Central Plaza Rama 9 in Bangkok this July. Organized by Asia Ice Events and supported by Powerplay Sports and Entertainment, the event had great participation with 29 teams from around the world competing this year. A diverse range of junior teams from Montreal (Canada), Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand competed in this years iteration of the tournament.
A tremendous atmosphere encapsulated the event with plenty of excitement shown by the crowd led by happy screaming parents cheering the kids on. The games lived up to the hype too, with all gold medal games coming down to a single goal to determine the champions of each division. Of particular highlight was the U14 final, which needed a shootout to determine a winner after two overtime periods were played to a stalemate. A thoroughly enjoyable tournament with lots of smiling faces on the players showed everyone why hockey is so special and why tournaments like this are essential in growing the sport in Asia.
The Tropical Freeze Tournament also featured two special events; Our first NHL19 (EA Sports) tournament, and another iteration of the always fun Skills Competition held at the end of the tournament.
