New Rinks Coming to Greater Bay Area
HONG KONG & SHENZHEN – January, 2021

2021 offers plenty of hope for the ice hockey community in the Greater Bay area, featuring 3 new rinks opening within the region. Rink locations in Discovery Bay, LOHAS Park and Shenzhen means more locations where hockey will be running, giving participants more options. We look forward to the imminent opening of these rinks once government restrictions in Hong Kong are relaxed. Further details and images of each rink follow:

Discovery Bay
DB Ice Rink, located on Lantau Island is set to open soon. The rink measures 59m x 26m, just one metre short of an NHL sized rink. This modern rink is equipped with a giant electronic scoreboard located over centre ice, as well as player benches, penalty boxes and a scorekeeper area. Elevated seating is located around the rink, as well as restaurants in the complex. Players will be happy to know there are 4 dressing rooms equipped with hockey specific lockers and shower rooms in the complex as well. (Photo credit: Raymond Loo)

Measuring 57m x 26m, the LOHAS Park ice rink is due to open once the Hong Kong government restrictions are lifted. Located at the brand new LOHAS Park shopping mall, it is located on the last stop of the Tseung Kwan O (purple) MTR line. (Photo credit: LHP7_Montara)
Kunlun Red Star Rink
Located in Shenzhen, the brand new Kunlun Red Star Rink completed construction earlier this month and is owned by the Kunlun Red Star Hockey Club. The rink is NHL sized, with a seating capacity of around 800. The structure itself is built inside an air dome, allowing clean air to circulate while also allowing for the absence of structural columns that can obstruct spectator viewing. (Photo credit: Kunlun Red Star)
The Greater Bay Hockey League (GBHL) is excited to see the development of these new rinks. The future looks bright as the league hopes to expand, providing more opportunities for young players to play within the Greater Bay area against teams from around the region. We look forward to the increased level of competition and giving the young players an experience they will remember.
