The inaugural Choi Park Lai Inline Cup was held earlier this month in Shunde, China; a town situated near Guangzhou. The tournament was organized by Powerplay Sports & Entertainment and supported by AngYu Sports Academy and Stilmat. This tournament is dedicated to the late Mr. Choi Park Lai, who is a Gold Bauhinia Star Medal recepient and renowned Fengshui master who inspired and supported his grandson Oliver Choi to promote and develop inline hockey in Shunde.
The tournament consisted of 8 teams, 4 in the adult division and 4 in the U10 youth division. Hong Kong was represented in Shunde by one adult team (ONYX 852) and one youth team (Hockey Life HK). The young Hockey Life HK team managed to snag a bronze medal, while ONYX 852 had a close fought encounter with a strong AngYu team in the final where they came up just short in a 6-5 scoreline to take home the silver.
In addition to having two teams from HK playing in the competition, China Hockey Group (CHG) also provided 3 referees from Hong Kong to officiate the event.
This tournament is targeted to be a mainstay in the Shunde inline calendar, with the next iteration of the event targeted for February 2020.
