The incredibly popular Land of Smiles tournament in Bangkok hosted its highly anticipated 2019 edition spanning late October to early November. For the first time in its history, the tournament hosted a Youth Division the week before the regularly scheduled Senior competition.
Youth Divisions consisted of a U8, U10, U12 and U14 divisions where the up and coming talent in Asia got to showcase their skills in a new competition. Of particular note were the Thai youth teams, which have improved considerably since the last tournament they participated in.
The Adult competition had a staggering turnout with a total of 46 teams from around the world participating. Included this year were competitive and recreational divisions as well as a women’s division. Hong Kong sent two teams to Bangkok, the HK Tigers (competitive) and the HK Hitmen (recreational).
The HK Tigers managed to get all the way to the final of the top competitive division, where they eventually lost to a very strong Moscow Penguins team.
The HK Hitmen showcased their new jerseys as they went on to win the Consolation Tier 1 final of the C Division defeating the Philippine Islanders team.
Another enjoyable and successful Land of Smiles tournament that lived up to the hype with a great turnout and plenty of competitive hockey. Powerplay Sports and Entertainment is proud to be a supporting partner for one of the most prominent ice hockey tournaments in Asia.
